Kobe Bryant was one of the fiercest competitors in all of international sport. Of course he tragically passed in 2020 but his presence and impact will loom large in the culture for many years to come.

Listen to his perspective on failing during a discussion with journalist Jemele Hill —

Essentially, he stresses not to be concerned with the outcome but give all effort towards the journey.

Kobe goes on to add that failure doesn’t exist because it’s a transitory state. Life is a continuous road with new challenges always ahead.

When asked how he would have felt if he didn’t win his multiple championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, he responds saying that he would have been extremely disappointed. That said, he would have moved forward post basketball with deeply thought out lessons on what could have been done to succeed. Lessons that would have had critical application in other pursuits.

So to conclude, failure is not a permanent condition. There will be other opportunities, other open doors.
