This is a quick one, let’s dive in!
Just a few points concerning my approach with Medium in 2024 below.
This isn’t set in stone, I’ll likely adapt and pivot as I proceed.
- Post approx. 1x ever 1–2 weeks. I’ll depart from this periodically but that’s a good cadence for me.
- Read other authors’ work 2-3x a week. I’ll schedule blocks on my G-calendar for this. Fyi, I think I’m a much stronger reader and commenter than I am a writer.
- As I mentioned above, I’ll schedule time blocks on my G-calendar for working on Medium and strictly adhere to that. Too much straight screen time & sitting isn’t healthy.
- I’m only speaking for myself — I’ll glance at the dashboard metrics but I can’t focus too much on that for decision making. Perhaps that’s to my detriment. But I’ll just do my brand of online writing (informal and conversational), get into my personal flow, and let the chips fall where they may. This is what works for me.
- I’m preparing to pivot into a variation of 1:1 personal coaching (I talked about this in a separate post, see link below) — I’ve decided to specifically focus on the personal goal accountability/accountability partner niche. Clients state their goal, they’re in charge, and I dutifully keep them on track. Similar to how Alfred assists Batman on his various missions. :)
I’m not touching any other areas that could be potential liability minefields like relationships, finances, career, mental health, and other very personal decision making.
I’m also communicating with a friend who is a legitimate and accomplished professional w/strong credentials in this space about collaborating. If this follows through, I’ll be apprenticing with her in a semi-junior partnership role.
Once I get rolling in this direction, I’ll be using Medium to support the coaching effort.
Btw, I think newsletters, digital products, and affiliate marketing are awesome.
There’s a Medium writer I’m following who is documenting her journey with developing these items.
She advocates a simple 2 step system:
- Build the audience on Medium
- Then shift them over to a newsletter. Once this is achieved, one can go into other areas.
With the personal coaching plan I roughly outlined above, I don’t have the bandwidth to do this approach now. That said, if the coaching business doesn’t gain the traction I want, I’m open to quickly pivoting into a variation of the 2 step system she recommends.
Thanks for reading!
