Steps To Your Personal Finish Line

There are many people on this platform way more qualified to provide advice on improving your writing craft and attaining success here on Medium.

With that admission though, I want to talk about just taking baby steps towards a goal. I’ll refer to my Medium profile for illustration.

When I first started on Medium, I had the normal trepidation about publishing my first article. Once I hit publish on it, the trepidation with publishing 2nd, 3rd, 4th… articles gradually lessened and is very low now. I’m confident in writing up a post, reviewing it, and publishing. I’ve currently got about 28 articles up with more to be put out.

I was also very hesitant about commenting on other writers’ articles. However, once I started doing it, I eventually became quite comfortable commenting. (Maybe too comfortable. A couple of times I wrote near articles in the comments section!)

I currently have 280+ followers (not stellar but that’s a long way from 0 followers). Excited to keep seeing this number rise as I publish more content and interact with other writers’ content.

I thought about submitting to a publication but decided not to. I’d rather develop the ability to self promote my content. To be perfectly honest too, I don’t feel like altering my articles to meet external guidelines or wait for…
