The other night, I re-watched one of the Mission Impossible movies with Tom Cruise. His character, Ethan Hunt, is a top secret super agent who is awesome at everything.
Although that makes for a great movie, in real life extremely few people are great at everything. This is why networking is important.
Much of the time on social media, networking is a term referenced for career progression. However, it shouldn’t be limited just to that domain. It is also highly effective for finding people who are adept in specialized areas.
By developing relationships with these individuals, they can assist you with things that you aren’t strong at and don’t have the time, inclination, and/or aptitude to become proficient in.
Furthermore, our whole society is built on division of labor. For instance, you wouldn’t conduct your own dentistry (or at least I hope you don’t). Most likely you personally wouldn’t do major repairs on your automobile (some people do though and that’s really cool but not optimal for everyone) — you would get a mechanic. You send your children to get an education from professionals (vast majority of people don’t home school), etc.
Modern progress is predicated on people typically specializing in one thing and making their contribution to the whole with that specialized skill.
